Meta opened an AI agent for small businesses, free with limits. The detail that decides everything is the approve button

What shipped

On 29 September 2026 Meta launched Muse for Small Business. You give it a goal ("find new customers", "run my business") and it works across connected tools. Meta names 15 of them, including Shopify, QuickBooks, Stripe, Canva, Slack, Notion, Klaviyo, HighLevel and Zoom, plus Facebook and Instagram pages and ad accounts, and says there are dozens of connections. Meta's rule: nothing publishes, sends or spends without the owner's approval. Most use is free, heavier use needs a paid subscription. US and Canada only.

What it means for an owner

An agent that touches all your tools is now within reach of any small company. The edge shifts to two things: clean data (an agent on a messy CRM makes mistakes fast) and the rules for pressing "approve". If the owner approves everything, that is one more inbox. If a team member approves with no rules, nobody is really in control.

What to do this week

  1. List 3 actions the agent may take without you (draft a post, a sales summary) and 3 that need your OK (payments, emails to clients, ad spend).
  2. Name one person who approves, and a fixed time each day to do it.
  3. Check the one system the agent will touch first: duplicate customers in the CRM, products without prices, unmatched payments.
  4. Outside the US and Canada, do not wait for Muse. The rules in steps 1-2 apply to any agent you connect to your tools.

Your people stay. What changes is how many manual reports and posts they assemble each week.
